2021 DESIGN TRENDS FORECAST

OKAY, BEFORE I BEGIN, I WANT TO ASK YOU TO NOT SHOOT THE MESSENGER!
TRENDS ARE JUST THAT, TRENDS…

That does not mean you have to use any of them in your home Or defend your style! Just enjoy or laugh at what you see!

terrazzo!

it’s even fun to say! this is probably one of my favorite design trends i’m most looking forward to this year!

i wanted terrazzo so badly in our new latham floor plan when we were building but it was difficult to find, and it was very expensive at the time. now that it has been bursting in popularity, manufacturers have made many look-a-like products at a reasonable price.

expect to see this type of pattern being used as wallpaper, flower pots, countertops, flooring, shower walls, furniture tops, ect.

terrazzo is a fun way to incorporate color and texture to modern homes!

one word…white

love it or hate it, white isn’t going anywhere anytime soon! one thing that is going out though, is all white everything.

as white gains in popularity, tones are expanding and becoming a perfect backdrop for anyones current furnishings.

for me, white will always be in my home, whether it’s currently on trend or not. clean white walls are just so calming to me!

don’t fret if you hate white, we will also see more color in 2021! jewel tone velvet furniture, dark and moody wall colors and grays are not QUITE out yet!

LIGHT WOOD

Light wood is no surprise! It’s been GAINING populaRITY for a COUPLE years NOW AND HAS REALLY STARTED POPPING UP IN THE MAINSTREAM STORES.

However this wood IS not only for flooring and furniture. we are seeing it as counters, cabinetry, shelving and exterior accents on houses! Beautiful smooth surface woods with little detaiL ALLOWING THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF THE WOOD STAND OUT!

this trend ORIGINATED FROM Scandinavian DESIGN and is NOW INCORPORATING Japanese Modern INFLUENCES.

It’s a higher end trend And I’m excited to see how it plays out in everyday American homes!

LESS…STUFF!

WITH HOW WIDLY POPULAR FARMHOUSE DESIGN HAS BEEN THE PAST FEW YEARS, REATIL STORES MADE IT VERY EASY FOR YOU TO ACCIDENTALLY OVER DECORATE YOUR HOME. BUT AS FARMHOUSE STYLE IS SEEING ITS FINAL DAYS, YES I SAID IT, LESS IS MORE will be huge in 2021 and beyond!

Less layering, less visual clutter, less stuff! I’ve been watching this trend GAIN POPULARITY OVER THE PAST COUPLE YEARS AND THE PANDEMIC HAS REALLY BROUGHT IT IN LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN! AS PEOPLE ARE SPENDING MORE TIME AT HOME, THE ONCE POPULAR FARMHOUSE TREND, HAS BEGUN TO FEEL CLAUSTROPHOBIC AND CLUTTERED RATHER THAN A CALMING ENVIRONMENT.

when it comes to less it more, EDIT BACK THE detailS in your home carefully and WITH purpose!

MODERN DESIGNS

The less is more way of decorating is solidified in the UPTICK OF more modern clean-lined HOUSE PLANS AND DECOR! PEOPLE HAVE BEGUN WANTING THEIR HOMES TO BE MORE FUNCTIONAL AND ULTIMATELY help WORK FOR THEM.

MANY THINK OF MODERN HOMES AS IMPRACTICAL AND MORE OF A “MODEL HOME” THAN A LIVED IN SPACE. THOSE THOUGHTS COULDN’T BE ANY FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH! MODERN LIVING IS CREATING A SPACE WITH PURPOSE AND FUNCTION HIDDEN FROM VEIW. USING STYLISH, SOPHISTICATED FURNISHINGS MEANT TO CREATE MORE STORAGE AND FUNCTION. One thing I LOVE about a modern SPACE is how purposefully each item in a room is chosen!

IF YOU LIKE HAVING MINIMAL DAILY UPKEEP TO KEEP YOUR HOME LOOKING AND FEELING TIDY, MODERN LIVING MIGHT BE FOR YOU!

BOHEMIAn, aka boho

AS YOU WAVE GOOD-BYE TO FARMHOUSE, LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO FARMHOUSE’S COUSIN AND YOUR SOON-TO-BE NEW BEST FRIEND, BOHo! It has the same warmth and comfy feel of farmhouse but is not so nicked up and distressed and painted.

The boho trend coming has scandinavian influenced wood tones, colorful fabrics, dark & moody paint COLORS, revived european textures anddd live plants!

this will be a perfect compliment to freshen up your edited back farmhouse spaces!

impact features

while less is more, bigger is also better! we are going to see this taken to the max more and more this year and beyond through new home builds and with refreshes in existing homes.

An impact feature is one BIG item in a home that stands out amongst everything else! tall ceilings, large art pieces, kitchen cabinet installations, large windows and statement fireplaces are just some of the things we are seeing.

features like this often show off the personality of the owner and it’s never a bad thing to infuse your own UNIQUENESS in your home!

EVERYDAY LUXURIES

as we continue to see how being at home more often effects design trends, one thing we are seeing more of is luxury items! and PERSONALLY, I couldn’t be more excited about it!

after a year like we’ve had, we could all use a few little everyday luxuries in our lives! freestanding tubs, heated floors, a cashmere throw, turkish textiles & HAND-POURED candles are just some of the ways homeowners are creating the feeling of well-being in their homes.

simply upgrading a couple items we use daily can make a positive impact on how we feel everyday!
