BREAKING GROUND! LET THE FUN BEGIN!
AFTER MANY WEEKS, MONTHS, OR FOR SOME, YEARS! OF PLANNING YOUR NEW BUILD, THE FIRST MAJOR STEP IN REAL PROGRESS BEGINS. BREAKING GROUND! THIS IS WHEN THINGS GET.REAL. AND EXCITING!
We are lucky that our builder, capstone custom homes, allowed us to use our own excavator on our last build and again this time with this new build! After all, you can’t find a better or more knowledgable operator than the amazing mark albrecht, owner of albrecht trucking co.!
a longtime family owned and operated company that has generations of experience and knowledge. digging basements is not something they do, but we are just one of the extremely fortune ones he has been willing to do it for. this man’s ocd for doing a job not just right, but perfect is why he and his company is a trusted and sought after source for hauling, stone and excavating needs in our area! thank you, mark, for your continued EFFORTS making our old, abandoned & neglected century property beautiful again!

stripping top soil and putting in the construction drive
many won’t find this to be a “fun” or SIGNIFICANT part of their new house build but it is, none-the-less, it’s a very NECESSARY thing to get stuff really moving!
this drive is the drive all the different trades will be using to build your home. many vehicles from, semi-trucks, DUMP TRUCKS, cranes, trailers and heavy equipment will be using this construction drive, so it’s worth the time to help them easly and safely acces your BUILD-SITE.

digging the basement, pouring the footers & stone
this begins scratching the surface and revealing what you’ve been planning for. it is exciting to see but it doesn’t really tell you too much of what’s to come but it is literally the foundation of your future home!
again, we are so thankful to have albrecht trucking dig our basement!
this is what your home is built on, the reason your foundation drains properly and ensures your house won’t flood in the future. we will have a walk-out basement, which is a huge BENEFIT for proper drainage, but mark doubled down to ensure our house will survive a 100 year flood, lol not just kidding but also not kidding, with his work in adding many more ways for house to drain properly. this is why having someone only willing to do things right and thorough, like mark does, he is worth his weight in gold. trades like him will save you money in the long run!

basement blocking
building the basement walls helps you begin to get a feel for the size and space of you future home, ESPECIALLY if you are building a ranch like we are. it is still difficult to fully wrap your head around until the framers come in and start building walls and defining spaces but, none-the-less, it is a huge checkmark to complete in order to get on to the more exciting parts of home building!
there are a couple ways to build a basement in our area, either block walls or form poured walls. while I prefer the APPEARANCE of poured walls, i don’t like their LIKELIHOOD to crack. and when it cracks, a huge entire section needs replaced and re-poured rather than just removing and replacing the damaged block or two. it may not sound like a big deal, but it is after your home is built and 10 years later you’re excavating around your house to get to the damaged wall to replace it. no thank you!

waterproofing, backfill, lumber delivery & building a boulder wall
after the basement walls are up, they need to be waterproofed before you backfill with stone and dirt. albrecht trucking backfills with stone all the way up and just a few inches of topsoil. this is not a typical thing done! most backfill with stone a couple or a few blocks up because it’s not cheap to backfill all the way around your house with stone. this is just another way our house drainage is far above and beyond any standard accepted norms. again, the albrecht trucking way of doing things right! sadly, i don’t have many pictures of the stone backfill all the way around the foundation!
after backfill, we started to do a rough grade around the house. again, all about that drainage! lol we needed a way to prevent EROSION below our deck since it has a steep slope. lucky for us, there was already many larger rocks and boulders in a pile on the property left over from the previous house. a few more were found while digging the basement and a few huge chunks of old foundation were dug up while digging the sewer trench. having those free materials already onsite is a SIGNIFICANT saving for us! finally!, something that saved us money! lol
